Court Postpones Kogi Guber Judgement

Judgement in the suit instituted by winner of the January 9, 2011 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial primary election, Alhaji Jibrin Isah Echocho, challenging the swearing-in of Idris Wada as governor, has been postponed..

A new date is yet to be fixed for the judgement as at the time of filing this report.

The reason for this is the absence of Justice Abdul Kafarati who is presiding over the suit.

Justice Kafarati of the Federal High Court, Abuja, having heard the parties in the matter, had fixed June 29, 2012, to deliver judgement.

Echocho, who is challenging the swearing-in of Wada as governor, had won the PDP gubernatorial primary election before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) postponed elections in five states, including Kogi.

This is sequel to an Abuja Federal High Court’s decision which said that the tenure of the five governors was beyond May 29, 2011, having won rerun elections.

But when the commission announced a new date for the election, Kogi PDP conducted another primary election in September in which Wada emerged as winner.

Echocho is asking for an order setting aside Wada’s swearing-in and for an order directing INEC to conduct a fresh election, pursuant to the January 27 judgment of the Supreme Court.
