NGF To Find A Lasting Solution To Country`s Security Challenges

Governors under the auspices of the Nigeria Governors` Forum (NGF) are to meet on Wednesday to find a lasting solution to the country`s? security challenges.

A source, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on grounds of anonymity, said?the meeting was being convened by the chairman Gov. Chibuike?Amechi?of Rivers.

The meeting is expected to also discuss the issue of constitution review and the eradication of polio from the country.

The governors had in their earlier meeting of June 25, condemned the spate of insecurity and violence in the country and?called for a multi-dimensional approach in tackling the situation.

They had stressed the need for?enhanced coordination and collaboration among security forces, effective use of technology and intelligence, value orientation and sincerity of purpose to addressing the situation.

The governors also stressed the need for a special intervention fund from the Federal Government particularly for states that were mostly affected by insecurity.

This they argued had become necessary because state governments were currently overstretched in funding security.

The governors also emphasised the need for state police, which, they said, had become necessary to combat insecurity at the state level.

The NGF formed after the American Governors` Association is an association of the 36 elected governors of the federation irrespective of party affiliation. (NAN)
