Niger Domesticated Fiscal Responsibility, Procurement Laws To Fight Corruption – Aliyu

The Niger State government has domesticated the Fiscal Responsibility, Public Procurement and State Audit laws to enhance development and fight corruption,? the governor of Niger State, Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, has said.

Aliyu gave this warning at the opening ceremony of meeting of state level corruption risk assessment in MDGs-related MDAs for Northern States held at Dogon Koli Hotels, Minna, yesterday.

The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Daniel Clifford Shashere, said that corruption had a negative effect on the citizenry as it hinders development.

He therefore warned public officers with corrupt tendencies to desist from the act as government would leave no stone unturned in ridding the state of corruption, bribery, fraud and dishonesty.

“Anybody found engaging in such nefarious activities will be summarily dealt with, according to the law,” he said.

The governor further pointed out that the meeting came at the right time when the government was working towards fighting corruption in all its ramifications for proper development.

He posited that Niger State was one of the states recognized by international development partners because of her zero tolerance for corruption, which, he added, had been one of the achievements of his administration.

Aliyu admonished the participants to take advantage of the event.

“The meeting must not fail to address specific objectives that support efforts by all states in the northern region to institute an effective regime of compliance with the law as the law creates legal objections for individuals and businesses,” he said.

The Head of Service of the State, Alhaji Ahmed Matane, who is also the UNDP Partnership Manager in the state, said the meeting demonstrates partnership between the northern states’ governments and the UNDP/NEITI as they work towards a corrupt-free society.
