Northern Leaders Urged To Emulate Rimi

Political leaders in the Northern part of the country have been called upon to emulate the first civilian Governor of the old Kano State, Late Alhaji Abubakar? Rimi for his patriotism and service to humanity.

Chairman of the newly formed Rimi Memorial Committee, Alhaji Yunusa Ya’u Zakari made the call while addressing newsmen in Kano.

‘’Rimi will always be remembered for his courage and revolutionary achievements in impacting positively on the lives of the masses. He always spoke the word of truth not minding whose ox was gored’’, he said.

He said that it was because of the achievements recorded during his tenure? that the committee decided to organise a public lecture on September 29 to commemorate the second anniversary of his death.

According to him, Late Rimi along with his colleague, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, the then governor of old Kaduna State implemented the programme of their party, the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP). ‘’They liberated the people of old Kano and Kaduna States from oppression, exploitation and injustices associated with the process of collecting the notorious poll and cattle taxes’’, he said.

Ya’u noted that, ‘’these revolutionary programmes liberated the masses from the yoke of official corruption and oppression and brought about unprecedented prosperity to the people’’ which according to him, had translated into the policy of free education up to university level that was religiously implemented.

He said that the implementation? of integrated rural development through the creation of Ministry of Rural and Community Development, was also given a boost.?
