Some clergymen on Sunday in Lagos advised the new Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Aloma Mukhtar, to address corruption in the judiciary and ensure quick justice delivery.
Monsignor Gabriel Osu, spokesman, Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, noted that the judiciary was the last hope of the common man and urged the CJN to ensure dispensation of justice without fear or favour.
Osu,who spoke in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), noted that corruption was high in the country.
“The problem with the judiciary is that it is a disjointed house, when the Court of Appeal is going left; the Supreme Court will be going right.
“She should make sure that justice is done and never delayed and that cases are attended to as and when due. I believe if she dispenses her duties very well the sky would be her limit.”
Pastor Femi Asiwaju, the Vice President, Penticostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Lagos State chapter, also urged the CJN not to compromise in the performance of her duties.
“We are proud of our women in position of authority; they have always been very firm. So a woman being on the bench as CJN, we expect the same from her because it has been her hallmark.’’
Pastor Churchill-Peters Ayerume, the National President, Council of Foursquare Men, also stressed the need for Mukhtar to be conscious of her actions.
“If the men have not done well, I believe we should give women a chance,’’ he said, adding that her track records were indications that she would deliver. (NAN)
