?The Imo government has signed a Memorandum of ?Understanding (MOU) with a British company to manage, rehabilitate and re-equip the hospitals for more quality service delivery.
Dr Obi Njoku, Commissioner for Health, stated this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Friday when he was reacting to the allegations that the state government had privatised its public hospitals.??
The commissioner said the government had earlier signed the MoU between it and the private company, to handle the hospitals, including one specialist hospital for effective management.
Njoku said that 30 per cent of money accruable every month to government from the hospitals would be remitted to the state government treasuries.
NAN learnt that the MoU states that the state government would retain its supervisory roles on the hospitals through the board members, to ensure the maintenance of high standard in the hospitals.
The commissioner said that the reason for the MoU was for government to give quality health care services to the people of the state.
He also noted that all the state owned hospitals are dilapidated and needed foreign partnership for revival.
Njoku said with the new plan, the cost of medical services would reduce.
He called on residents to always patronise these hospitals for effective service.
He claimed that?those who instigated the privatisation rumour were the antagonists of the present administration, and warned against insinuations that could create controversy in the society. (NAN)
