Delta Community Laments Lack Of Access Road

Ewulu people in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta have lamented lack of access road to the community, saying they have been cut off from the state.

A community leader and the Okita of Ewulu, Chief Eugene Nnadei, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that as far as he could remember, the only link road to the community had never been graded nor tarred.

Nnadei said that this had almost crippled economic activities of the community which, he claimed, were predominantly farmers and fisher men.

He said that the only link to and from the community which was about 25 kilometres from the Obasanjo farms in Ogwashi-Uku had suffered much neglect and appealed to the Delta Government to come to their rescue.

Nnadei?said that because of the bad road, farm produce from the community could not be exported to other communities for market transaction.

He also said that the road, which was more of an earth road, was worst hit during the rainy season as the rains made?it impassable to motorists, which in turn adversely affect cost of transportation.

He further said that because of the bad road, the youth of the community who would have helped in one way or the other to develop the community, had migrated to the urban communities.

The community leader and Okita of the community also told NAN that with the rains the cost of transportation to the community from Ogwashi-Uku, the closest town, had gone up by?more than 100 per cent.

Nnadei?said that presently, the only means of transport to the community was?commercial motor cycles, popularly known as Okada.

He added that the price has increased from N150 for a journey of 30 km?during the dry season to N500.

He appealed to the state government to make haste and assist them, claiming that?the community had never benefitted from the development policies of either the council or the house of assembly.

Nnadei said that the?lack of access?road to the community negated?one of the three-point agenda, (Infrastructural development) of the present administration.

He noted that it was a well known fact that good roads facilitate economic development in the society.

‘’ But where this is absent, the suffering of the people can better be imagined.

‘’ I tell you, our people, l mean the people of Ewulu are suffering. This?(road) issue is of major concern to us, and we want the government to do something about it urgently.’'??(NAN)
