Libya Blames U.S. Ambassador’s Killing On Gaddafi Loyalists

The head of Libya's National Congress on Wednesday blamed the deadly attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, in which the U.S. ambassador and three others were killed, on loyalists of ousted leader Muammar Gaddafi.

“This cowardly deed is an episode in the series of evil and conspiracy against the February 17, revolution that toppled the Gaddafi regime,’’ Mohammed al-Magariaf said.

He called on Libyans to be united to “block attempts to harm the country's security.’’

Libya's Deputy Prime Minister Mustafa Abu Shaqur on Wednesday also denounced the killing of four U.S. officials, including ambassador Christopher Stevens, in an attack on the U.S. consulate.

“I condemn this cowardly and criminal act against the U.S. consulate in Benghazi and the killing of the ambassador and his colleagues,’’ Abu Shaqur said.?
