CNPP Tasks INEC On Transparency Ahead Of Ondo State Guber Election

The National Publicity Secretary, Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP), Mr Osita Okechukwu, has advised INEC to be transparent in the conduct of Oct. 20, governorship election in Ondo State.

Okechukwu gave the advice in Abuja on Tuesday during in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He said it was the responsibility of INEC to diligently organise, execute and deliver the results as transparently as possible in the best tradition of democracy.

The CNPP’s spokesman also called on the electoral body to ensure that voting materials arrived on time on the day of the election, and to ensure that the “voters' register is clean''.

“If the people of Ondo feel that the incumbent has done well, let him return. If they say no, let their will prevail.?There will be no democracy in the country if the people’s votes are manipulated,'' he said.

The secretary urged the political parties participating in the election and their supporters to shun election malpractice, bitterness and violence during the election.?

Okechekwu said, “Violence cannot take any of the contenders or parties to anywhere, and as such, the participating teams should embrace peace.''

He emphasised the need for security agencies to redouble their efforts in checkmating violence during the election and in the country at large. (NAN)
