Katsina Targets December To End Polio

The Katsina State government has set December 2012 as deadline to halt the transmission of poliomyelitis in the state.

Commissioner forHealth, Alhaji Garba Yammama,told LEADERSHIP WEEKEND that Katsina still leads in poliomyelitis infection in the country with reports of new cases in four local government areas.

At a meeting of Primary Healthcare coordinators from the state’s 34 local government areas, Yammama said the state government was living no stone unturned inchecking the spread of the disease.

He said the state is working towards halting the transmission of the disease by the end of December 2012 and appealed to the people to support the effort of the state government.

Yammama disclosed that the recent re-introduction of monthly sanitation in the state was “part of measures in ensuring clean environment and ultimately control the spread of polio and other diseases” adding “prizes awaits any council area that records outstanding feat in environmental sanitation.”
