3 NDLEA Officers Reject Bribe From Suspected Drug Baron

Three officers of Kebbi State command of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Mr. Yusuf Isaya, Sahabi Smaila and Mohamed Abubakari who rejected bribe offer from a suspected drug baron arrested in Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi have been commended and given Letters of Excellence for exemplary conduct by the National Chairman of the Agency.

Addressing newsmen yesterday in his office the state commander of NDLEA, Mr. Okon O. Ulu, said that ‘’ the suspect was carrying 4kg of cannabis and was arrested inside the bush he brought out money to bribe my staff and they rejected it. I forwarded their names to the head quarters the National chairman gave them Letters of Excellence and commended them for good conduct’’.

Two suspects,the State commander said, were also arrested in Yauri and Zuru and handed over for prosecution.

Mr. Ulu added that in Zuru, one John Okoye was arrested with 21.3kg of cannabis in a blue coloured Mazda 323 with registration number AA83MPA Kogi while in Yauri Mohammed Umar was intercepted on Yauri-Jega road while he was coming from Ondo with 68kg of cannabis.

The state commander further explained that the three suspects were prosecuted at Sokoto High Court and urged the Federal Government to establish Federal High Court in Kebbi State in order to make their work easier.

Mr. Ulu pointed out that from July till date his command has successfully arrested 81 suspects, 79 males and 2 females, seized 62.047kg of cannabis, 1.900kg of psychotropic substances counseled 14 peoples and rehabilitated three.
