Polio: Traditional Rulers Advocate Punishment For Erring Parents

Apparently worried by instances of parents disallowing their wards to be vaccinated against the polio virus, traditional rulers in Kaduna State have advocated for persecution and appropriate punishment for such parents.

The traditional rulers made their stands known during a town hall meeting organized by the Journalists against Polio Initiative (JAP), following the worrisome increase and outbreak of polio diseases in Kaduna State.

According to the District Head of Anguwar Muazu, Alhaji Ahmadu Aliyu Cika SORON zazzau and Sarkin Makama Unguwar Sunusi, Mallam Abdullahi Isiyaku in Kaduna South Local Government respectively, they said they will go to any length to arrest the ugly situation in the state.

They assured that as leaders of various communities saddled with the responsibilities of protecting their domains and the citizens, they will ensure that no stone is left unturned towards achieving total eradication of polio in their domains.

Meanwhile, the traditional rulers called on the government to evolve a policy that will ensure that erring parents are appropriately disciplined, saying, this will go a long way to serve as deterrent to others.

They however expressed their gratitude to the International donor Agencies such as WHO, UNICEF and state governments for their concern over the plight of children already affected.
