Be Peace Ambassadors, STF Commander Charges Youths

Maj. Gen. Henry Ayoola, the Commander, Special Task Force (STF) maintaining peace in Plateau, on Tuesday charged youths to see themselves as ambassadors of peace for stability in the North-central state.

Ayoola gave the charge in Vwei, Kuru and Vom villages in Jos South Local Government during the ongoing STF sensitisation tour for peace in troubled zones.

“In view of the security challenges in parts of Plateau, youths must see themselves as peacemakers and ambassadors of peace.

“You (youths) must see yourselves as those who must take the news of the peace initiatives being unfolded by us (STF) to every nook and cranny of this state,’’ he declared.

The STF commander said that although a lot had happened, he believed peace could be achieved in Plateau if everybody desired it with the youths at the forefront.

“Please accept to be peacemakers for us to attain the much desired peace on the Plateau.

“You must organise yourselves into groups and engaged in frank discussion with each other as the STF toward seeking and installing lasting peace on the Plateau.’’

According to him, there is the need for joint vigilance among the ethnic and religious groups to build mutual trust necessary for peace.

Earlier, a youth leader of one of the communities, Mr Daniel Pwajok, had said that the youths were peaceful and ready to partner with the STF for the restoration of permanent peace in Plateau. (NAN)
