Controller Decries Prison Congestion In Jigawa

The Controller of Prisons Service in Jigawa, Mr Muhammad Bedi, on Wednesday decried the level of prisons congestion in the state.

Bedi said this in Dutse when he paid a courtesy visit to Mr Yakubu Ruba, the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.

According to him, most of the prisons in the state are too congested.

He said there was the need for the State Government to find a solution to the problem.

The controller said that the Dutse Central Prison, which is expected to accommodate 50 inmates had 114, noting that most of them were awaiting trial.

Responding, Ruba said the state Ministry of Justice would ensure that the state did its best to see that the prisons were decongested.

Ruba assured the controller that he would work with the prisons to ensure quick dispensation of justice in the state.
