Keshi Has Apologised To Me – Maigari

The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Alhaji Aminu Maigari has described the controversy that trailed the purported resignation of the Super Eagles Chief Coach Stephen Keshi as unfortunate.

The NFF president was speaking to sports writers in Bauchi immediately after a rousing welcome organised by the people of the state after winning the AFCON trophy in South Africa where he said a lot of rumors emanated. He said after talking to Keshi he apologised.

“I had a three hours meeting with Keshi where I told him my anger as I heard the rumors of his resignation but he never wrote to me that he wanted to resign. There was a lot of rumors in the football circle that we have already drafted a sack letter to Keshi, that I have travelled to Europe to interview a foreign coach, that some people want him sacked all these are not true. Don’t forget that the NFF employed Keshi, so if there is any one that will sack him is my responsible board, but after discussing with him he realized his mistakes and apologised. “He said

Alhaji Aminu Maigari pointed out that he believes that Nigerian Coaches can make the country proud as exhibited by Coach Stephen Keshi by lifting the Nations Cup 19 years after, saying that for now we don’t need a foreign coach.

Commenting on the preparations of the U-17 national team, the NFF president said based on the performance of the team at the qualifying stages Nigeria will not disappoint the nation.

“This is the time we have a sound U-17 national team with credible coaches as throughout their campaign they never lost a match but ended up scoring their opponents with wide margins, so we believe that the team will make the nation proud after the tournament” he added.
