Leaders of the Boko Haram group have dissociated themselves from the recent bombings, killings and burning of markets in some parts of Borno State.
The organisation’s second in command, Shiekh Abu Mohammed Abdulaziz, told newsmen yesterday in Maiduguri at a press conference that the group was not responsible for the fresh attacks and killings, especially the burning of shops and stalls in Customs Market in the metropolis.
The press conference was attended by Sheik Abdulaziz and four other leaders of the group. Before the press briefing, the leaders had sent invitation to journalists about the event, which they indeed attended.
He reiterated the position of the group on the current ceasefire and maintained that it had nothing to do with the recent bomb attacks and killings of innocent people, describing it as very unfortunate and uncalled for.
Sheik Abulaziz warned persons distributing alarming leaflets, carrying out attacks and other criminal acts such as robbery and snatching of vehicles in the name of Boko Haram to desist from them.
The spokesman of the group further called on the government to remain resolute on its pledge as the group leader, Sheikh Ahmed Shekau had mandated him to announce the ceasefire because any further attack would not be in the interest of the people.
