Cleric Calls On Christian Couples To Limit Number Of Children

Mr Ogechi Ofurum of the St. Luke Anglican Church, Akwakuma, Owerri, has called on Christian couples to only give birth to a reasonable number of children.

Ofurum told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Owerri on Wednesday that having too many children resulted to social vices and immorality.

He attributed the development to the inability of the parents to train the children properly.

“When the children are not taken care of, they will begin to look for how to make ends meet in an illegal way. Let parents minimise the number of children they give birth to since they know that their resources are limited.

“This will help to reduce the rate of kidnapping, bribery and corruption, robbery, killings and all sorts of evil in our society,” he said.

On the 2013 Anglican Mothers’ Day, he urged the Christians and mothers to persevere in order to make heaven.

He stressed the need for them to stand firm, adding that God expects His children not to give up in spite of challenges.

“There are challenges from our families, work places, churches and everywhere, but we are expected to prevail because those who stand to the end will be saved,” he said.

The pastor called on Christians to maintain the life of holiness, pointing out that prosperity can only come when people lived a righteous life.

“Open doors are not just claimed through fasting and prayer, but gotten when one walks in purity. No matter how you claim God’s promises, you can never have them once you live in sin,” he emphasised.

Ofurum also said that no one could persevere without Jesus Christ, urging the people to embrace sound spiritual practice.
