Policemen Flee As Gunmen Attack Station In Yobe, Kill Corporal

Policemen in Bara Divisional Police Station of Gulani Local Government Area of Yobe State took to their heels yesterday as gunmen suspected to be members of the insurgent group, Boko Haram, attacked their station and reportedly killed an officer.

Two telecom masts belonging to MTN and Globacom were also torched by the gunmen who also took away three vehicles belonging to the local government council, the Yobe State Police Commissioner, Sanusi Rufai, said.

The attackers, who arrived in the village situated some 160km away from Damaturu, Yobe State capital, also set the police station ablaze.

Mr. Rufai confirmed the incident and said the gunmen actually used rocket launchers to raze the station.

He, however, denied that the police corporal who died in the attack was killed at the station, saying the corporal was killed in his house five hours after the attack.

Monday’s attack is the first in about five months since the last attack was recorded in the state.
