Eggheads of the Nigeria Basketball Federation and men’s elite league Sponsors DSTV/Supersport will today undertake a final inspection of facilities and venue for the jump ball of the 2012/2013 DSTV basketball league season.???
The federation yesterday in a circular to teams informed stakeholders in the league that a joint team of the NBBF and DSTV/Supersport officials will undertake a final inspection of the Indoor Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos today to assess the state of facilities for the commencement of the League Season this April. Clubs have been kept in suspense regarding the specific date of commencement of the league but this is a signal that the league will start soon. NBBF said specifically, the team will test-run the lighting system and scoreboards in the hall, for possible repairs or improvement while the state of the playing surface (floor) and dressing rooms as well as toilet will also be assessed.
The federation secretary general, Francis Gbiri said the DSTV and Supersport official will in addition determine the level of branding required in the hall stating that this season, branding will be extended to all venues. He said the NBBF has since inspected the home venues of the two new teams in the league, namely, Plateau Peaks and Oluyole Warriors for certification and that the last team to register for the season is just being documented in readiness for the season.
“It is expected that teams from the two Conferences will nominate a representative each to join other members of the League Board which is being reconstituted.
The new season’s fixtures reflecting the new commencement date and observations from the teams will be released before the press briefing to usher in the new season scheduled to hold in Lagos shortly.” Gbiri said.
Meanwhile the Minister of Sports, Director-General and staff of the National Sports Commission and Board and staff of the NBBF weekend congratulated Nigeria’s Olympic star Ike Diogu and his team, GUANDONG TIGERS for clinching the 2012/2013 Chinese Basketball Association(CBA) title. NBBF said, “We are proud of the immense contribution you played in the success of your team and eagerly look
forward to your leading our great national team and country to our first African championship in August.
