Nigeria maintains impressive performance beating Egypt 1-0 in an international friendly game

The Super Eagles of Nigeria continued their winning ways on Tuesday with a defeat of Pharaohs of Egypt in an international friendly.

The three-time African champions defeated Seychelles 3-1 in Asaba last Friday to complete an impressive run in the qualification series for AFCON 2019.

They hosted Egypt, hosts of the 2019 elite African football tournament at the Stephen Keshi stadium, three days after the Seychelles win.

As Nigeria was without captain and playmaker, Mikel Obi, Mohamed Salah was not at the Asaba party.

Gernot Rohr and the lads looked set for a good display on the pitch and they so did with a early lead into the game.

Paul Onuachu shot Nigeria into the lead in the very first minute of the first half. The 24-year-old scoring first Nigeria goal on his full debut.

Egypt trailed Nigeria into the second half needing to maintain their unbeaten record under new Mexican coach, Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino.

Martino took over the gaffer role in the Pharaohs technical set-up in January 2019 and had not lost a game before the night.

They team came close to equalising through a counter attack but was stopped by Leon Balogun who saved the blushes for Nigeria.

The visitors enjoyed some good share of ball possession and forced saves from Ikechukwu Ezenwa numerable times.

The game gradually faded into a slow tempo as the clock ticked to the last finish.
