Osun Contract Review: NCP Demands Public Disclosure From Govt

Osun State chapter of the National Conscience Party(NCP) has urged the state government? to make public? actions to be taken on the report of the Contracts Review Committee it set up to probe some of the contracts alleged to have been fraudulently done by the Olagunsoye Oyinlola’s administration.

The party made its position known through a petition written and signed by its Chairman,Comrade Waheed Lawal and submitted to the State House of Assembly, a copy of which was made available to LEADERSHIP in Osogbo, the state capital.

He admonished the state government to make public names of those that allegedly perpetrated the acts, noting that the essence of setting up the committee would be defeated if the report was swept under the carpet.

It would be recalled that the committee had submitted its report to the State Government about four months ago but it is yet to make public its decision on the report. In its report, some public

functionaries who served under Olagunsoye Oyinlola were indicted for allegedly perpetrating fraudulent acts running into several millions of naira.

Lawal? gave the state government seven days within which to act on the request with a threat to drag the? government to court should it fail to act on the matter.

The NCP boss noted that the huge funds involved belong to the people of the state adding that, “it is the people that would bear the brunt of this misappropriation of public funds”. According to him, “it would be unacceptable to us for the government to constitute a committee to verify abandoned contracts, only to allow the report to gather dust”.

He charged other pressure groups in the state to mount pressure on the state government to act swiftly on the report of the committee.
