Organisation gives scholarship to 60 in Bauchi

A philanthropic
organisation in Bauchi State, Wakilin Gona Foundation, has awarded
scholarship to 60 students in Danbam Local Government Area. The
Director of the foundation, Saleh Usman who disclosed this in Danbam,
said each of the 60 students will receive N20,000 at the end of every
semester.

He made the
announcement at the presentation of N2 million to some youth in Danbam
as capital to start micro-economic businesses.

He also revealed
that the organisation purchased the Joint Admissions And Matriculation
Board’s (JAMB) forms for 21 students at a cost of N4,600 each to assist
them in their academic pursuit. Mr Usman explained that apart from the
purchase of the forms, the foundation has volunteered to pay the
registration fees of the candidates should they get admission to the
university or polytechnic. He said one of the objectives of the
foundation is to assist the poor and called on other wealthy
individuals in the area to emulate the gesture.

The Chairman of
Danbam Local Government, Ahmed Jalam commended the foundation in its
effort to assist the youth in the area to acquire education. The
chairman, who was represented by the council’s education secretary,
Idris Zubairu observed that no meaningful development could be achieved
in any society without sound education.

Chairman of the
foundation, who is also the Chief Medical Director of the Abubakar
Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Alkali Mohammed,
said the organisation was formed to empower both the youth and women.

More donations

In another
development, as part of its effort to boost the quality of education in
the state, the Bauchi State Furniture Company (BFC) has donated 50 sets
of school desks to Umululdeen Islamiyya School, Yankari Terminus Bauchi.

The Managing Director of the Company, Bakoji Badara stated this
while presenting the furniture to the principal of the school at the
premises of the company in Bauchi. He said the gesture is to encourage
education in the state. “All we are doing is to promote and give
support for the empowerment of young people for life through their
formal education and skills acquisition in this factory,” he said.
