Bus Crushes 50 Passengers At Robbery Point In Lokoja

?

About 50 passengers were feared dead Tuesday, after an unidentified luxury bus and truck ran over them at Zariagi, on the Okene-Lokoja road, Kogi State.

The victims were said to be travelling from Lagos to Abuja when their bus was stopped by robbers who ordered them out and asked them to lie face-down on the road. The robbers blocked one side of the single lane road with their vehicle and were operating on the other side of the road.

In an attempt to evade the armed robbers, a bus that was headed towards Lokoja rammed into them and ran over them, leaving behind mangled flesh and broken skulls. The 50 passengers were said to have died on the spot.

However, the Lokoja Sector Commander of the FRSC Sunday Maku, who confirmed the accident, said only 14 persons died, adding that the driver escaped unhurt.

The commandant explained that the incident actually took place at about 5:00am on Tuesday morning, stressing that it was difficult for them to identify or even pick the corpses of the victims because of the way their bodies were crushed by the runaway luxury bus and the truck.

The armed robbers were said to have made away from the scene immediately after the ugly incident.

The corpses of the victims have been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre and state Specialist Hospital, Lokoja, while the driver of the bus which passengers were crushed is being held by the Police.
