NDLEA Arrests 32 Drug Suspects In Delta

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Asaba, Delta State, has arrested 32 suspected drug addicts in possession of 120.2kg of cannabis and psychotropic substances.

The state command’s spokesman, Mallam Ibrahim Mohammed, told newsmen in Asaba that the suspects had been handed over to the police for further persecution after they were arrested at different locations in the state.

He said that 12 of the suspects believed to be involved in the selling and smoking of cannabis were arrested various markets in Asaba and their environs.

While disclosing that a distributor believed to be a native of Edo was arrested with 86.3kg of cannabis in Kwale, Mallam Ibrahim Mohammed added that the suspect was giving out the substance to his customers when the officials of the agency closed on him.

LEADERSHIP checks revealed that Agbor, Kwale and its environs were allegedly home to drug peddlers, and that many had been nabbed in recent times.

An Agbor-based patient medicine dealer, Mr. Monday Chinedu, told our correspondent that the increasing rate of consumption of illegal and adulterated drugs as a result in lack of monitoring by government and relevant agencies was worrisome.
