FCTA Gets 4 New Secretariats

President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the creation of four more mandate secretariats for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The secretariats, equivalents of ministries in the states, when inaugurated, would bring the number to 10.

The FCT minister, Senator Bala Mohammed, who disclosed this yesterday at the inauguration of the six mandate secretaries and the coordinator for Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), gave the names of the four new secretariats as works and environment, finance and investment and information and communication, as well as land and Abuja Geographic Information System (AGIS).

The newly inaugurated secretaries are Mr. Kabiru Usman (Education); Dr. Onakomiya Adebayo (Health & Human Services); Mrs. Blessing Onuh (Social Development) and Engr. Jonathan Achara, (Transportation).

Others are Mr. Yahaya Alhassan (Area Council Services); Mrs. Olvadi Madayi (Agriculture & Rural Development) as well as Architect Reuben Okoya, (coordinator AMMC).

He said President Jonathan had already sent the list to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for ratification.

The minister charged the new secretaries to drive the administration of their various secretariats with commitment, loyalty, discipline and transparency and to also display good leadership qualities as that would be their only guarantee for good followership.

He warned them to set aside all forms of distraction as the days of politicking were over and face the task of developing Abuja to be one of the best megacities in Africa in the next ten years, stressing that levity would not be tolerated.

Senator Mohammed urged them to compare the needs of their various offices with global best practices and work towards ensuring that the FCT maintains its position in the country. He added that through their work, they would be able to attract real time investment to the FCT which would further accelerate the development of the city.

Responding on behalf of the secretaries, immediate past secretary of transportation, Engr. Jonathan Achara, who was re-appointed to the same position expressed the commitment of all of them to the development of Abuja.

He noted that they were already aware of the challenges of developing Abuja and that discharging their duties with the highest level of competence and diligence was the only way they could justify their appointment.
