FG To Strenghten Law Establishing SON

The Minister of State for Trade and Investment,Dr.Samuel Ortum, has said that the law establishing the Standard Organisation of Nigeria(SON) would be strengthened to give more powers to the organisation to effectively position it to fight the war against the production and importation of sub-standard products.
Ortum made the declaration at Sagamu where he supervised the destruction of sub-standard products worth over N300million seized by SON.
The products imported into Nigeria with active collaboration of some foreigners were seized at various borders across the country.
The minister said that the importation and marketing of substandard products sold to unsuspecting consumers were worse than armed robbery as millions of Nigerians were exposed to danger, hence the urgent need to take conclusive measures.
He said that SON would be given more powers and stronger teeth through the review of its enabling laws in order for the organisation to bark and bite harder.
