HIV/AIDS Patients Want Stigmatisation Bill Enacted

People living with HIV/AIDS under the auspices of the Network for people living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria, NEPWAN, Bauchi state Chapter has called on both states and federal governments to enact law that will stop any form of stigmatization and discrimination against the disease victims.

The state Coordinator of NEPWAN, Mallam Usman Abubakar Ziko made the call yesterday on the commemoration of World Aids Day 2011 in Bauchi, where he described the delay in passing the law in the state as a major cause of discrimination among their members? both in their working place and residences.

Mallam Usman said lack of income generation? is a big challenge to? members leaving with HIV/AIDS. He appealed to the government to provide income generation activities like the provision of sewing machines, knitting machines ,grinding machines or soft loans to support them group.

He commended the Bauchi state government for the support given during the wedding of 252 couples living with HIV/AIDS? through the state Agency? for the control of HIV/AIDS Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Malaria BACATMA.
