51 Persons Killed In 507 Auto Crashes In Adamawa In 2011 – FRSC

Fifty-one persons were killed and 944 others injured in 507 road accidents that occurred in Adamawa in 2011, according to the FRSC Sector Commander, Mr Luka Ikpi.?

He said in Yola on Wednesday that some 1,526 persons were invloved in the accidents.

Ikpi said that Michika Local Government Area had the highest record of accidents, with about 70 per cent of them?? involving commercial motorcycles.

“The last quarter of 2011 witnessed the highest record of crashes, with about 136 cases, in which 15 persons died and 304 other were injured.”

He added that the third quarter of the year had the highest number of deaths, with 18 persons killed and 242 injured in 126 crashes.

Ikpi said the recklessness of commercial motorcycle riders was the major cause of road accidents in the state.

“Most of the commercial motorcyclists don't have any knowledge of traffic rules, and they are very difficult to be trained.”

He said the lack of patrol vans was one of the major challenges militating against efficient service delivery by the commission, and appealed to the state government for support in the provision of logistics.
