Some Communities Not Covered By Immunisation For 3 Years – WHO

Some communities in Gamawa Local Government Area of Bauchi State have not been immunised in the last three years, a WHO consultant has said.

The consultant, Emmanuel Katuga, who is in charge of Gamawa, Zaki and Gadau, said the development was due to negligence on the part of health officials.

Katuga made the disclosure on ?Saturday in Gamawa, headquarters of Gamawa Local Government Area, during de-briefing?on the ongoing polio immunisation.

Katuga specifically mentioned Kari-Kacaf community, noting that the health workers had failed? to reach out.

He blamed one of the three Wild Polio Virus cases detected in the area on the failure of health workers to administer complete doses of the vaccines to children below the age of five years..

In his comment, the Emir of Dass, Alhaji Bilyaminu Usman, expressed dismay at the non-coverage of the affected areas by health workers..

Usman, who is also the Chairman, Bauchi State Traditional Rulers Council, called on the chairman of the council and others stakeholders to redouble their efforts.

He called for the creation of a task force at the ward levels that would identify all new settlements of displaced persons from Borno and Yobe. (NAN)
