Easter Celebrations: Police Deploys Additional 1,000 Personnel In Suleja

The Niger Police Command has deployed addition 1,000 policemen? from the headquarters in Minna to beef up security at some flashpoints in Suleja Local Government Area of the state.

Mrs Deseye Nsirim, the state Commissioner of Police, disclosed this to newsmen on Friday in Minna shortly after her familiarisation tour of area commands in Suleja, Tarfa and Agwara Local Government Areas of the state.

Nsirim assured residents of the state that adequate security would be provided for Christian and Muslim faithfuls throughout the Easter celebrations to avoid any breach of peace.??

“Officers and men of the command have been put on red alert in some strategic areas to check any breakdown of law and order in the state.

“What we are saying is that we intend to provide security for Christians who want to go to church throughout the Easter celebrations in a robust way in all the churches.

“In our determination to ensure security of lives and property in the state during the festive period, I have ordered that additional 1,000 policemen should be taken from the Command Headquarters in Minna to beef up the personnel at some flashpoints in Suleja Local Government Area.’’

“In fact, we have already prepared our own operational strategies and starting with the Easter period for all Christians and also when it is time for the Muslim celebrations.?

“We are going to provide same because it is a whole community and we are here to police the Christians, Muslims and every other religious body,” she said.

She warned those who want to foment trouble during the Easter festive period that the police would deal with them decisively.

The Commissioner expressed optimism the celebration would be peaceful in the state.

“In fact, with God on our side, I don’t think we are going to experience any breach of security because the police is are ready to police every city and communities within the state throughout this period of Easter celebrations.

She stressed the need for officers and men to comport themselves as a disciplined professional body.

Nsirim said the tour was imperative to enable her to have first hand information about the situation in police formations outside Minna, the state capital.?
