FG Committed To Decent Education For Almajirai – Sambo

Vice president Namadi Sambo has reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to integrating western and Arabic education insisting that the task of ensuring decent education for almajirai cannot be abdicated.

Speaking in Katsina yesterday, during the closing ceremony of the 26th edition of national Qur’anic recitation competition, Alhaji Sambo said, “the almajirai have fundamental human rights to education and the basic necessities of life as enshrined in the constitution.”

He said the federal government was determined to ensure the success of Tsangaya scheme just as he disclosed that contracts worth five billion naira had been awarded for the second phase of the almajirai schools to be spread all over the country.

The VP who decried the current unfortunate condition of the almajirai which has forced the pupils to live a life of misery and begging, noted that “Islam abhors abdication of parental responsibilities” and added that “the potentials of these almajirai must be harnessed.”

He assured that adequate arrangements are being made to boost irrigation farming in the north and disclosed that no less than N135bn would be used for the provision of irrigation facilities.

The VP who was the special guest of honour at the closing ceremony, urged Nigerians to pray for peaceful coexistence in the country, assuring that the federal government was determined to improve the standard of living of the citizenry.
