The Kebbi Government on Friday?rescinded?its decision to pay the N18,000 new minimum wage to workers in the state.
The Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Sani Kangiwa, told newsmen in Birnin Kebbi?that the?government would now pay the new salary without allowances.
He said the government took the decision?due to paucity of funds.
Kangiwa explained that the government would now pay the minimum wage without the allowances, to enable it save vital funds?needed to provide relevant services to the people.
“Out of the N2.7 billion received as federal allocation, N2.07 billion?is spent on salaries, pension, gratuity, scholarship and students’ feeding.
“The balance is inadequate for essential payments, provision of services to the people and execution of development projects.''
The commissioner disclosed that?a??21-member special task force??had been constituted to boost internal revenue generation in the state, so as to augment the?earnings of the government.
He said the task force, headed by?Alhaji Sani Augie, would also?identify new sources of internal revenue generation for the government.
The Chairman of the state NLC, Sadiq Kaoje, said he was not aware of the reversal, but called on?workers to remain steadfast.
Members of the?Academic Staff Unions of the three state-owned tertiary institutions had embarked on an indefinite strike over the matter.
The institutions involved are the Adamu Augie College of Education, Argungu, the?College of Agriculture, Zuru and the College of Preliminary Studies,Yauri.?(NAN)
