Oshiomohole Urges Politicians To View Security With Sobriety

Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo has called on political stakeholders in the state to view security of lives and property of the citizenry with `sobriety.’

Oshiomhole made? the call during the launching of the N10 billion, Edo State Security Appeal Fund, in Benin on Thursday.

According to him, politics thrives better in the atmosphere of peace and security.

He recalled that his administration had so far provided 150 vehicles and many communication gadgets to improve the efficiency of the police in maintaining law and order in the state.

The governor said that no fewer than 500 kidnappers had so far been arrested by security agents, noting that the state would no longer be a haven for criminals.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Mr Parry Osayande, who was the chairman of the occasion, called on the people to donate to the fund.

Earlier, Justice Samson Uwaifo (rtd), the Chairman of the State Appeal Fund Committee, said that it was obvious that the security in the state had become another grave concern to all and sundry.

?“It is frightening to realise how various criminal acts have escalated in recent times not only in Nigeria but all over the world.

“We have now to contend almost on a daily basis with such crimes like armed robbery, kidnapping, hostage-taking, bomb blasts? and assassination among others,’’ he said.

Uwaifo underscored the urgency to enhance the security and restore the confidence of the business community.

He said the fund was a litmus test to the sensibility of those concerned about security of lives and property as it is in the best interest of the public.
