The Police Command in Bayelsa on Monday confirmed the kidnap of a 60-yeard community leader, Chief Bertrand Douglas of Ekpekiri community.

Douglas, a renowned geologist, was kidnapped on Sunday by armed gunmen in his country home in Ekpekiri.

The command's Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Fidelis Odunna, told the News agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yenagoa that Douglas was abducted and taken to unknown destination.

He, however, said the command had dispatched a crack team to track down the kidnappers.
