NUJ Petitions FCT Police Over Assault On Leadership Reporter

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, has petitioned the FCT Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aderenle Shinaba over the brutalisation of a reporter with the Leadership Newspapers, Mr. Igho Oyoyo, by men and officers of the command.

The union, in a petition signed by the council secretary, Mr. Emmanuel Ogbeche described the action of the police as not only barbaric and unprofessional, but contrary to the rule of law mantra of the present administration.

Recall that Oyoyo was on Saturday assaulted by over 20 policemen, among them, Ibian Eno, John Ikwuo, Abubakar Katcham, and Malah Muhammed, led by Inspector Bitrus Dakup, during the PDP ward primaries, held at Old Parade Ground, Area 10, Garki.

He urged the commissioner to take immediate action against the officers as their action, saying “if no disciplinary action is taken against the ‘irresponsible officers,’ the council would be left with little option but to take legal action against them as their action offends decorum, professionalism and respect for human dignity.”
