20 Prisoners Escape From Ogun Prison

Hell was let loose in Sagamu, Ogun State yesterday when no less than 20 inmates of Sagamu Prison escaped from the facility.

The incident which occurred at the early hours of Friday caught the Warders unaware as the inmates were all set free during the imbroglio.

When LEADERSHIP WEEKEND visited the site, it was found out that during the attempted jail break which occurred around 3.00am, some of the inmates as well as prison officials were seriously injured.

Though the number of casualties could not be confirmed, but sources who pleaded not to be named told our correspondent that it was not unlikely that some of the prisoners might have been killed during the attempted jail break because of the heavy gunfire booming from inside the prison while the violence lasted.

The revolt by the prisoners who used all sorts of materials as missiles and weapons was however, later contained by the members of the Armed Squad of the Prison Service.
