?As the Kano State government goes tough on fake drugs and adulterated products’ sellers, the chairman of the newly inaugurated Kano State Task Force on Fake, Counterfeit, Adulterated Drugs and Unwholesome Processed Food Products, Alhaji Ali Adamu, has said it would no longer be business as usual for persons and organisations involved in the illicit trade.
Adamu said the task force in partnership with other stakeholders in the drug industry would soon rid the state of all fake drugs and products.
His warning came amidst protests by drug sellers, whose shops were shut down by the state government in its renewed crackdown on fake drug producers and dealers.
Last Monday, some drug dealers under the aegis of the National Association of Patent and Proprietary Medicine (NAPPHMED) stormed the popular Muhammadu Abubakar Rimi Market, Sabon Gari, which is notorious for the sale of illicit products and ordered other traders to quit the market until their shops were re – opened by the state government.
In a statement made available to LEADERSHIP WEEKEND, Adamu praised the Director-General of the National Agency for Foods Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Dr. Paul Orhii, for inaugurating the panel in Kano. He also lauded Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed, the Walin Kano, Alhaji Mahe Wali, who represented the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero and other stakeholders for taking the anti-fake drug campaign to Mariri where substandard and expired drugs worth N700million were burnt.?
He said after the incident, the task force seized another truck load with fake drugs worth N30million.
