Following the dissolution of the Adamawa State Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the cancellation of the congresses it held by the party leadership, palpable tension has enveloped the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party, as its chairman Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, yesterday alleged betrayal.
Ten members of the NWC of the PDP had in an emergency meeting on Tuesday dissolved the Adamawa State caretaker committee which it had earlier constituted, and further cancelled the congresses held by the committee.
Documents from the national secretariat of the party? revealed the approval of the? timetable for the congresses in the state by the same NWC members a situation which has pitched the national chairman against ten members of the NWC as the rescinded decision did not have Tukur’s endorsement and support.
Tukur and Governor Murtala Nyako are said to be at loggerheads over the control of the party’s machinery in their home state of Adamawa.
When reporters ran into the National Chairman of PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur yesterday, he? said that he felt betrayed by the actions of some members of the NWC as he had opted to stay away in all matters that affected Adamawa State.
“This is just a case of betrayal of trust. The documentations and correspondences in this matter will justify that the congresses in state was approved by the NWC”, Bamanga stated.
On December 5 2012, in a letter, signed by both the national chairman and national secretary of the PDP, and addressed to? the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, the party’s NWC had? notified the commission of the various dates for the congresses commencing from December 27 2012 to January 8, 2013.
