Job Racketeering: NSCDC Disowns Websites, Parades 4-Man Syndicate

The authorities of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC)? has dissociated itself from the various internet sites designed with its logo by criminal elements, with the sole aim of defrauding unsuspecting and desperate applicants seeking job placement into the corps.

Speaking on behalf of the Corps Commandant General, the Public Relations Officer, Mr . Emmanuel Okeh who paraded a four man syndicate at its Corporate Headquarters, yesterday , re-emphasised that the service does not use information technology (IT) nor online advertisement, sales of forms nor scratch cards? for its recruitment, hence the need to disregard? calls asking qualified applicants to apply? for recruitment through consultants as it has no intentions to do so.

Mr. Okeh who further hinted that intensive efforts to track down? internet operators such as www.nscdc.wap.ka.mobi and fedjob.com, among others used for defrauding unsuspecting job seekers was on course, disclosed that over 560 suspects had been arrested so far, with 135 cases successfully tried and prosecuted, while others are undergoing prosecution nationwide.

The Corps spokesman told newsmen that the criminal activity of the syndicates who use AMAC Area 10 and the prominent Transcorp Hotel as their hideout came to the fore when a victim who perceived fraud in their activities hinted an intelligence and anti- fraud unit officer of his ordeal.

According to Okeh, the principal suspect, Mr. Wilfred who was arrested in the wee hour of Sunday alongside his collaborators posed as the Personal Assistant to the Commandant General, while his girl friend, Miss Grace Benedict who carries out the transaction via telephone, posed as the Private Secretary to the Corps Commandant General.

The suspects, who claimed to be property agents did not deny the allegation but begged to be pardoned.??

The Corps spokesman however disclosed that the case has been handed over to the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Crime Commission (ICPC) for further investigation.
