CPC Hails Opposition Over New Party, Sani Urges Internal Democracy

The Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) has praised the opposition parties in the country over the formation of All Progressives Party (APC).

The CPC alongside the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) as well a faction of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) on Tuesday mergedto form APC to wrest power from the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).

Reacting to the coming on board of the APC yesterday, CPC in a statement made available to LEADERSHIP WEEKEND urged Nigerians to join the new party, saying it (APC) remains the viable platform? for rescuing the country from perceived slide.

According to the statement endorsed by the CPC’s national publicity secretary, Mr.RotimiFashakin, stated that by its name,? “paradoxically, the new party so formed shares the same acronym with Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC), which is a vehicle for transporting soldiers for combat.

“Indeed, the new party (APC) shall be open to all Nigerian patriots that are ready to fight against the free-fall-slide-to-the-abyss of the Nigerian state by the PDP’s precipitous rule in the last 13 years.”

Fashakin on behalf of the CPC while endorsing the emergence of the APC, also stated that the new party is an ideologically based political association that is intrinsically structured to providing an alternative platform for the Nigerians.

Meanwhile, president of the Civil Rights Congress of Nigeria (CRCN), Comrade ShehuSani yesterday told the new All to imbibe the culture of internal democracy and be a shade for all those who cherish a truly democratic, progressive, united and prosperous Nigeria.

Sani in a statement, said the decision by the major opposition parties to merge was a “step in the right direction.
