NDLEA Arrests Eight Suspects In Kogi

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Kogi State has apprehended eight suspects in August, this year, the state commander of organisation disclosed.

Mallam Idris Mohammed Bello who made this known at a media briefing in Lokoja, disclosed that 19.1 kg of dried weeds suspected to be cannabis sativa were recovered from the suspects, in various parts of the state.

He posited that among those arrested was one Sunday Chuks, who claimed to be a volunteer in the Kano State Command of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps.

He said Chuks was apprehended with 8.6 kg of 10 compressed dried weeds suspected to be cannabis along Okene-Lagos Road by men of the command.

Equally, the commander revealed that one of the notorious illicit drug dealers who operated under the bridge at the old market in the metropolis in now in their custody, saying Momoh Jimoh recruited young boys to sell the hard drugs for him.

He added that so far, 19 convictions were recorded by the state command, from January to August this year, and expressed delight that the establishment of a Federal High Court in Lokoja is easing the job of the organisation.

While expressing the commitment of the state command of the agency in the fight against drug trafficking, Mallam Bello called on the members of the public to assist the agency with useful information that would enable them discharge their duties effectively.

He however decried non availability of rehabilitation centre where drug addicts can be kept and counselled before being reintegrated into the society.
