ASUU Slams Vote Of No Confidence On Uni-Abuja VC

The controversy that trailed the suspension of four courses in the University of Abuja has taken a worrisome dimension, as members of the institution’s Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU have slammed a vote of no confidence on the vice chancellor, Prof. Joseph Adelabu.

In an exclusive interview with LEADERSHIP WEEKEND yesterday, the chairman of ASUU, University of Abuja branch, Dr Clement Chup said the union met yesterday morning to review the situation in the university.

“We came to the conclusion that the major problem in the clog of progress of the university so far is the vice chancellor, Dr. Chup stated. “Because of his gross incompetence, the institution has been drifting in the wrong direction. We therefore resolved as a union to pass a vote of no confidence on the VC.”??

Reacting on behalf of the management of the institution, the information officer, Mr. Waziri Garba said he was not aware that a vote of no confidence was passed on the VC.

“I am not aware,” Mr. Garba said. “I was not informed and cannot say anything because I am not even a member of ASSU. I do not attend their meetings. I would only be informed, when a notice has been served to the management. So far, I am not aware of any such thing.”

It will be recalled that the federal ministry of Education last week, suspended four courses in the university, Agriculture, Veterinary medicine, Medicine and Engineering.
