Kano State Hisbah Command, on Sunday night arrested 80 alleged commercial sex workers at Kwanar Gafan village of Garun Malam Local Government Area of the state.

Malam Musa Tanko, the Public Relations Officer of the command told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Kano that the arrest was meant to sanitise the state in line with existing laws against prostitution.

He disclosed that Kwanar Gafan was a notorious prostitution hub and other criminal activities in the state, saying it took the operatives several hours before they were able to round up the suspects.

According to him, a team of Hisbah corps from the 44 local government areas of the state took part in the operation.

Tanko said that some of the operatives were attacked and injured by the suspects and their patrons, while their vehicles were also vandalised.

The spokesman said the command had on Monday conducted series of tests on the suspects which revealed that some of them were HIV/AIDS positive, while a number of others were found to be pregnant.
