Kogi State Governor Idris Wada, has expressed the commitment of his administration to uplift the standard of education in the state.
He stated this during the inauguration of the board of governors of Advancement and Support Centre, as well as the commissioning of ANAN centre at the Kogi State University, Anyigba.
He pointed out that the decision to make the state university his first port of call upon his assumption of office, was due to the emphasis his government placed on education.
The governor who was represented at the occasion by his deputy Yomi Awoniyi, expressed delight that the state university was already keying into his administration’s education agenda, through the setting up of the centre.
He further disclosed that contract had been awarded for the construction of male and female hostels at the institution, adding that he would soon lay a foundation stone for the projects.
The governor stressed that the setting up of the advancement centre was an investment option which would go a long way in filling the gap created by government’s inability to adequately fund education due to lack of funds.
Also speaking, the Obi of Onitsha and Chancellor of the university, Dr. Nnaemeka Achebe,? noted that the establishment of the centre was a major step towards taking the school to higher? heights.
He pointed out that since university was a centre of excellence; there was need for the institution to pull resources together to enable it meet its challenges.
He expressed happiness that the school is growing rapidly, saying in no distant future, state universities would be contributing in no small measure, to manpower in the country.
Earlier in a remark, the vice chancellor of the university, Prof. Hassan Isah noted that with purposeful and determined leadership, the school could boldly announce its presence on the national scene, disclosing that all the courses being run by the school have been granted full accreditation by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
While commending the former governor of the state, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris for injecting massive funds towards the development of the institution, he posited that the school could now compete on equal scale with some of the premier universities in the country. He averred that the aim of setting up the centre was to mobilize funds for the development of the institution, more so that the state government could not meet the ambitious demands of the university.
